Autumn arrives

After a day of mixed weather, going from sunlight to showers and back, it was quite nice on the walk home from work, so I detoured through the old boneyard near my flat, to take some pics of the chestnut tree.

The sun was declining, the lower parts of the tree were in evening shadow already, but the upper branches and leaves and chestnuts were catching that copper-coloured, last hour of sunlight, so I zoomed in to catch a few close-ups.

I got quite lucky with some close focus shots – bokeh, as it is often called, where the object in the foreground is sharp and the background a soft blur.

And what is autumn without more chestnuts?

Before And After

Before

Before.

After

And after.

Improvised night shots, walking home from the cinema late night, so no tripod with me. Instead I set the timer adn rested the camera on the box that houses the push-to-cross button for the Green Man Crossing to steady it. First shot looking towards Dalry Road, as the traffic was awaiting the green light, second just after the lights changed, traffic moving, the long exposure creating motion blur and light trails.

The Marie Antoinette Fan Club

Spotted something rather interesting and unusual as I was walking in my neighbourhood recently: graffiti, but in French. Basically it claims that Marie Anotinette , born Hapsburg, was innocent and she was right.

Quite why there is French graffiti chalked onto a wall in Edinburgh, I cannot say, and why that person is making a stand for the executed French queen after a couple of centuries and in another country, likewise, I have no idea as to why. But it is interesting, and I rather like that peculiar things like this just show up as I walk around my city. I wonder how many walked past this without even noticing it?

Sunset Song

Walking home late on a summer evening, the sun reclining to its repose, dipping below the line of the old Dalry cemetery, turning the skies copper.

Reclining Sun

And a few moments after the sun had vanished below the horizon on a summer evening, the final light still glowing up, painting the clouds in an Impressionist mix of reds, blues, purples, oranges, the roofs and silhouettes of the old tenements outlined by the last moments of twilight.
