Autumn is not quite here fully yet, the trees are still mostly leafed in greenery, but more and more gold and brown leaves are showing, the pavements have more fallen leaves creating a crunching carpet underfoot. It may not be quite here yet, but autumn is knocking on summer’s door. I don’t mind – autumn in our northern kingdom, on a nice day, creates the most glorious colours, illuminated by a sunlight that is stretched out now to a soft, golden copper. Gorgeous.
Autumn has been creeping in the last couple of weeks – truth be told, it wasn’t much of a summer here, even by Scottish standards! And we’re still getting more rainy days than nice, just as with the washed-out summer, but when that golden, autumn light does come out, the colours are rather lovely.

Of course, it isn’t just the trees and leaves, the autumn sun is so much lower in the sky that it now casts as much in the way of shadows as it does light, which creates scope for some interesting takes on an otherwise mundane subject, such as a chap sitting on a bench by the canal:
Dad and I had a nice walk around the Colzium in Kilsyth – gorgeous autumn day, lovely golden light, and that light was showing off a cascade of seasonal colours. The photos don’t really do the light quality or the foliage colours justice…
As autumn sinks into winter I thought I’d try and show a more positive side to lying in the gutter.
First sign of impending winter has already been: relaxing with a pint in front of a roaring fire in the pub (ahhhhhhhhhhh… sigh of contentment just thinking about it). Now the second sign has come to pass: first glass of hot mulled wine.
Strangely enough many of these leaves were airborne mere seconds after this shot was taken as a mysterious man joyfully kicked his way down the line. Remarked one witness, “I couldn’t see him clearly, it was a blur of flying foliage, beard and bandana before he disappeared humming the Peanuts theme and doing what appeared to be the Snoopy Dance.”
