Mitchell Lane

Mitchell Lane, an old stomping ground in Glasgow from back in the day. A couple of us were through for a day to spend some time with a dear chum, and ambled along this tall, narrow alley, although sadly the great art hub, The Lighthouse, was still closed, so we couldn’t visit there (we did have some very nice Japanese food in a nearby restaurant though)

I was also quite taken with this retro, French sign for a bar and restaurant called Tabac. The design, and the colour in the shade of the alley caught my eye, and the reflection of it, mirrored in the dark glass of the windows, was a nice bonus, so of course I snapped a quick pic.

Doing some more night shots recently, was drawn to this buzzing neon sign (surely one of the icons of night-time, big city living), zoomed in on it. And then for some reason felt moved to switch to black and white mode and shoot it in monochrome, even though, like most neon signs, it was a vibrantly coloured piece. But I had a feeling it would look cooler in black and white in a night shot, and actually, I think it does:
